Kim M. McGwier, Esquire

For nearly 20 years, Kim McGwier, Esquire, has been practicing exclusively in Marital & Family Law. Despite Ms. McGwier’s ability to practice any other area of law, she chose to solely dedicate her career to helping families and children.  Ms. McGwier has always practiced from the core belief that families should resolve legal disputes amicably as opposed to allowing a Judge decide the fate of your life. She is an expert negotiator who has resolved the majority of her family law cases in mediations or settlement negotiations since 2006.

Ms. McGwier is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator who successfully mediates family law disputes for families without the need for either party to hire a lawyer. She obtained certified training and continues her education in Collaborative Family Law, which is a more formal process (other than mediation) for handling family law litigation with a mediation mind-set.

In the event your case must proceed to trial, Ms. McGwier has already strategized from the beginning to set your case up for success. If attorneys fail to strategize from the onset of a family law case, the results at trial could be devastating. Ms. McGwier is committed to informing her clients about the ever-changing area of family law and will inform clients of all weaknesses and strengths of each individual case. Each case is distinct and requires different strategies.

Ms. McGwier is committed to helping each client understand the cost-benefit analysis of resolving a case in mediation or settlement negotiations versus the high dollar expense of taking a case to trial. Clients must remember, if an attorney promises you an outcome, you should hire a different lawyer.

Most people who consult with Ms. McGwier for family law disputes worry about the amount of money it cost to be represented by an attorney. Ms. McGwier has dedicated her life to making each case less financially and emotionally burdensome for families. She understands the financial and psychological burdens family law clients endure because she experienced these same burdens.

Ms. McGwier graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida (“UCF”) in 2001 with her B.A. in Journalism and a minor in English writing. She had four children when she graduated from UCF and decided to attend law school at Florida Coastal School of Law. She began her understudies with the intent to receive a psychology degree, but switched to law when she saw the injustices occurring in the legal arena. Her passion for psychology has remained and is integrated in her family law practice everyday. Ms. McGwier works side-by-side with psychologists to help guide clients through this emotionally and psychologically charged area of law.

As of today, she has seven children and five grandchildren and spends precious spare time with her family. Any other spare time is spent relaxing on the water or fishing.
